WHINNIE
" It was Sunday, and Whinnie"was only just beginning to realise!just how long she had been in the"clothes she was wearing. The faded!yellow T-shirt and blue jeans had%began to reek of sweat, which was not surprising. That weekend, on the#Saturday afternoon, Whinnie had set#out to find the piece of paper that%her friend Julie had written both her own, and Whinnies feelings about#Richard. Sure, Richard was shy, and$he never seemed to care about girls,$but the looks he had given them in a!Chemistry lesson were the sort of!looks that meant everything. That#day it was true to say that Whinnie$and Julie loved Richard, and that he%felt the same. The piece of paper was%only small, it was just a page ripped"from Julie's French exercise book,$but if anybody found that note, then the whole affair would be spread#about the school like wildfire, and in truth, neither Whinnie's, nor$Julie's lives would be worth living,"come to think of the embarrassment that they would have caused poor#Richard. If any teachers or parents%of the two girls found it there would"also be trouble, as it contained a"great number of swear words. Thus,
Whinnie was worried, because,
although it was in Julie's!handwriting, the two of them were%such close friends that if one was in"trouble, than the other invariably had something to do with it too.
After searching all around both"Julies and her own houses, Whinnie!decided that she had to check the%school. That Saturday night, she told her parents that she was staying"over at Julie's house, but instead#she went to the school and tried to
break in. While she was in the$process of levering open the windows to the main classroom block, she"heard a barking sound behind her .
She turned and saw Dragger, the#caretakers dog running towards her.!Whinnie panicked, she dropped her%tools and her pencil case and ran for%it. The dog chased her for miles. By#dawn the next day, Whinnie had been"running for almost four hours. She#had not realised how tired she was."When she woke, she was lain by the side of the road and the sun was"beating down. She hailed a passing#taxi and was driven straight to the$police station, where she turned her#self in. Taken as being insane, she"was ushered into a padded cell and
was locked up. It was then she$realised just how smelly her clothes"had become. she also realised that
the pice of paper she had been
searching for so long was
indeed in her trouser pocket. ! "DAMN", she said, in true
